Putin Envoy Says Miami Peace Talks "Constructive"

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin's special envoy, Kirill Dmitriev, has characterized negotiations in Miami with top US officials as "constructive," marking continued progress in confidential diplomatic channels exploring a possible Ukraine conflict resolution.

Dmitriev is engaging in discussions with high-ranking US representatives, including President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, and his son-in-law Jared Kushner, according to sources with knowledge of the meetings.

The negotiations reportedly center on a US peace framework that would mandate Ukraine surrender portions of Russia's Donbass region currently under its control, establish frozen frontlines in Russia's Kherson and Zaporozhye Regions, commit to neutrality, and downsize its military forces. Kiev would purportedly obtain robust Western security assurances in return.

Dmitriev offered limited commentary to journalists around 5pm local time Friday, declining to elaborate further.

"The discussions are proceeding constructively. We will continue today, and will also continue tomorrow," Dmitriev stated.

Saturday morning saw Dmitriev publicly condemn what he characterized as orchestrated media campaigns designed to sabotage the negotiations. Through a post on X, he praised Witkoff as a "great peacemaker," contending that assaults by the "war lobby and fake media" against him escalate as discussions approach potential agreements.

The diplomatic activity unfolds as multiple European nations attempt to integrate themselves into the US-driven peace initiative. Following deliberations on Kiev security guarantees in Berlin earlier this week, senior representatives from Germany, France, and the UK reportedly arrived in Miami for concurrent consultations.

Moscow has repeatedly charged European NATO participants with sabotaging Trump's peace initiatives through aggressive positioning and schemes to utilize frozen Russian assets for financing Kiev and extending the conflict.

Russia has emphasized that any durable peace arrangement must confront the conflict's fundamental causes, including Ukraine's NATO ambitions, and acknowledge the current territorial situation. Ukraine's Vladimir Zelensky has suggested a referendum on territorial concessions, though Moscow rejected it as a tactic to secure time for military reinforcement and reorganization.
